Tamil actor Dhanush has addressed the debate surrounding Raayan’s National Film Award win with humility and perspective. While the film was honoured as Best Tamil Film, the decision sparked widespread discussions, with many movie lovers feeling acclaimed releases like Meiyazhagan and Maharaja were also deserving contenders.
Instead of dismissing the criticism, Dhanush acknowledged that there were several outstanding films in contention and said he respected differing opinions. Reflecting on his own journey, the actor recalled that some of his most celebrated films, including Pudhupettai, Maryan, Karnan, Raanjhanaa and Vada Chennai, did not receive National Award recognition.
Drawing from those experiences, Dhanush suggested that recognition does not always reflect a film’s lasting appreciation among audiences. He also quoted actor Ajith Kumar, saying, “No one can defeat you until you admit defeat yourself,” before ending with one of his trademark punchlines.
