Actress Malavika Mohanan stressed the need for more female directors in an interview with Variety India. According to her, the lack of female directors and writers is limiting the variety of women’s roles in mainstream cinema.
She said, “We need a lot more of the female gaze. The moment we have more female makers, I am sure some of them would write cool action roles as well. And then we can have an Indian Kill Bill.”
Malavika praised Aamir Khan’s production Laapataa Ladies, saying that she loved the way the female characters were portrayed through the female gaze. The The Raja Saab actress made it clear that she wants to move away from flowerpot roles going forward.
