Shreyas Iyer was effusive in his praise for his teammates after his first series sweep as India’s T20I captain, in Harare on Sunday.
The skipper lauded the clinical showing of his team, hailing the sweep as a “special moment.”
“They are a young bunch of players who have been showing tremendous energy and intent on the field, especially in back-to-back games. To have such kind of energy is what I require as a captain and as a team, and they could deliver today (Sunday) as well in back-to-back games.
“So, yeah, a special feeling for me to win the series over here in Zimbabwe. Winning 3-0 was clinical and a special moment too,” Shreyas said.
For the skipper’s youngest teammate, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, winning the Man-of-the-Match award in Sunday’s final T20I as well as being adjudged Man of the Series was certainly a “dream-come-true” moment.
“Yes, it’s truly a dream-come-true moment for me, getting my first Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards. I’m very happy,” Sooryavanshi stated, adding: “I had also played the Under-19 World Cup here (earlier this year), so I really enjoy playing at this venue.”
“I wanted to give the team a good start… wanted to make the innings bigger.”
