Spirit: Katrina Kaif to replace Deepika Padukone in Prabhas, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action thriller? Truth is…

Prabhas’ upcoming Spirit continues to create buzz even before its release. Helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the pan-India action thriller has remained one of the most-anticipated projects since it was announced. While the makers have remained tight-lipped about several aspects of the project, fresh reports claim that there could be another possible addition to the cast.

Katrina Kaif to join Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit after Deepika Padukone’s exit?

According to a report by Deccan Herald, Katrina Kaif has been offered a key role in the Prabhas and Triptii Dimri-starrer. Though the role is said to have brief screen time, it is reportedly expected to play a crucial part in the narrative. If Katrina joins the cast, it’ll mark her comeback to Telugu cinema after nearly 20 years, following her appearances in Malliswari and Allari Pidugu.

Well, there has been no official confirmation from either Katrina or the makers. As of now, the speculation remains unverified.

Why was Deepika Padukone dropped from Spirit?

According to reports, Deepika Padukone was removed from the film after director Sandeep Reddy Vanga was not happy with her working conditions. The insider stated, “The actor had reportedly demanded ₹25 crores for approximately 35 days of shoot, along with a 10% profit share, extensive entourage expenses, and even expressed unwillingness to deliver dialogues in Telugu—something the director felt strongly about. To top it off, confidential plot details from Spirit were allegedly leaked, which raised serious concerns among the producers.”

“Contrary to speculation, her restricted filming schedule of under 8 hours a day was never the primary issue. In filmmaking, working hours are fluid and depend on location, lighting, and various technical factors. You could shoot for 2 hours or 8, depending on the scene. What truly matters is flexibility, collaboration, and respect for the craft,” the source emphasised.

Setting the record straight, the source further continued, “Also, using this situation, many are commenting on the work-life balance without knowing the facts and understanding the repercussions a production/director can face; this is not just misleading; it’s unfair. This isn’t about hours or schedules, it’s about unreasonable demands, lack of adaptability, and unprofessional conduct.” However, neither Deepika Padukone nor the makers of Spirit have publicly confirmed or reacted to these reports.
