Adani Energy Solutions Wins Rs 8,500 Crore Transmission Project in Andhra Pradesh

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has won an inter-state transmission project worth approximately Rs 8,500 crore in Andhra Pradesh, aimed at supporting upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag region.

The company emerged as the most competitive bidder for the project, titled “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework of the Government of India.

The transmission system is expected to facilitate the integration and supply of power to proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag area, catering to an estimated power demand of around 4,500 MW. The project is also expected to support rising electricity demand in the Pendurthi-Vizag region, which is witnessing growing investments in data centres and digital infrastructure.

The project will be housed under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Vizag Power Transmission Ltd. Its scope includes the establishment of a 4×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV GIS substation at Pendurthi (Vizag) and a 3×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation.

With the project, AESL will add 1,582 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity to its portfolio. This will take the company’s overall transmission network to 29,531 ckm, with total transformation capacity reaching 1,33,675 MVA.

Commenting on the development, Adani Energy Solutions CEO Kandarp Patel said the Vizag transmission project would play an important role in strengthening India’s energy infrastructure and supporting the country’s next generation of industrial growth.

He said the project would help enable the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the power grid to meet the requirements of emerging digital infrastructure in the Pendurthi-Vizag region.

Vizag is increasingly emerging as an important digital infrastructure location, with large-scale artificial intelligence and hyperscale data centre developments, planned subsea connectivity, and associated logistics, clean energy and industrial infrastructure. The expansion of green hydrogen production and data centres is expected to increase the need for reliable, high-capacity transmission infrastructure in the region.

According to the company, the project will be critical for ensuring power availability, grid stability and long-term industrial competitiveness as the region’s clean energy and digital infrastructure ecosystem expands. The transmission project is scheduled to be completed within 30 months.
