New Delhi: A Gurugram woman’s experience at her workplace became a topic of discussion on social media. She stated that her male colleagues excluded her from simple social gesture, leaving her wondering why. Netizens weighed in on the incident.
In the post titled “Weird day at office today”, the Gurugram woman revealed that she had been working for the same company for the last two years. She also informed that she was one out of the only three women employees in the company. Meanwhile, the other employees were all men above 35 years old. Further, the 26-year-old woman claimed she was left out from social events at the office by her male colleagues.
Woman says she was excluded by male colleagues at office
“So I’ve been working at this company for two years now- it has an all-male staff. 3 women in total, including me. The demographic is 35+ and I’m 26,” she said in her post. She went on to recollect two incidents where she was left out.
In one instance, a male colleague bought samosas and invited everyone to eat, including their boss. “Today, a guy in some other team brought samosas for the whole office and specially came to our desk, invited my boss and the entire team that sits opposite me,” said the woman. She added, “This is the second time this has happened. Why does that happen? I’m confused. It’s not like I’m new. I talk to people and I haven’t been rude to anyone.”
Reddit users were quick to help the woman understand the scenario. They opined that the men colleagues might not be used to female interaction.
“You should probably break the ice here. Say playfully, ‘Arrey, humein nahi khilaoge samose?’ That should do the trick,” said one. Another person stated, “The most likely thing is that people fear POSH. Even though some concerns are based on misconceptions, many just avoid interactions altogether.”
