New Delhi: Spain brought an end to their 12-year-long wait for a second FIFA World Cup title after beating 1-0 in the final on Sunday.
Ferran Torres turned out to be the hero for Spain as his injury-time goal helped Luis de la Fuente’s men secure a thrilling victory in the all-important summit clash at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
were arguably the better of the two teams for most of the final, dominating possession and creating more chances as Argentina were thoroughly outplayed. Lionel Messi went missing as a hapless Argentina failed to trouble the resilient Spain defence after going ten men down in the injury time.
While Spain clinched their second FIFA World Cup crown, their captain Rodri was awarded the Golden Ball for being the best player of the tournament. The midfielder pipped the likes of Messi and France striker Kylian Mbappe to bag the top honour after leading his side to World Cup glory.
Rodri joined Andres Iniesta in becoming only the second player to lead Spain to a FIFA World Cup triumph. Iniesta helped La Roja win their maiden title in 2014. Messi failed to score in the final and fell short in the Golden Boot race, with Mbappe eventually bagging the top prize.

France captain Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot for finishing as the highest goalscorer in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Mbappe scored 10 goals in eight matches in the tournament and played a key role in helping France reach the semifinals. He also won the Bronze Ball for being the third-best player in the tournament.
Golden Ball – Rodri (Spain)
Spain captain Rodri won the Golden Ball for being the best player in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Rodri was one of Spain’s best players throughout the tournament and pipped the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe to the top honour.
Silver Ball and Silver Boot – Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Messi enjoyed a stellar World Cup for Argentina but failed to turn up in the final as Spain dominated the proceedings on their way to lifting the elusive trophy. Nonetheless, Messi bagged the Silver Boot for being the second-highest goalscorer in the tournament with 8 goals. He was also awarded the Silver Ball for being the second-best player in the tournament.
Golden Glove – Unai Simon (Spain)
Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon was the Golden Glove for his heroics between the sticks in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Simon was terrific throughout the tournament and was also helped by Spain’s world-class defence as they together kept as many as seven clean sheets in the tournament. Simon conceded only 1 goal in the entire World Cup.
Young Player of the Tournament – Pau Cubarsi (Spain)
Spain’s young centre-back Pau Cubarsi won the Young Player of the Tournament award in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The 19-year-old Barcelona defender was a vital cog in Spain’s defence and played a key role in helping his team lift the trophy.
