On Monday, July 20, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lay the foundation stone for the Lodheshwar Mahadev Temple Corridor.
This initiative is being undertaken in anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections in 2027. The Chief Minister is scheduled to visit the site in Barabanki to commence the project. The Uttar Pradesh government aims to complete and inaugurate the corridor before the elections, which is seen as a strategic move to counter the political tactics of the Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.
In addition to Barabanki, numerous communities from Unnao, Banda, Jalaun, Kanpur, Hamirpur, and Kalpi regard Lord Mahadev (Shiva) as their family deity. During the sacred month of Sawan and on Mahashivratri, a significant number of devotees from the Lodhi, Gurjar, Tomar, and Pal communities visit the Lodheshwar Mahadev Temple alongside Kanwar pilgrims. Following the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, this corridor will serve as another vital site for devotees.
The corridor will be constructed over approximately 20 bighas (540,000 square feet) of land. To facilitate the project, 127 homes and shops surrounding the temple have been removed. Illegal encroachments were cleared using bulldozers, while property owners with valid documentation received compensation before their properties were demolished. A total of around 48 crore rupees was allocated for the eviction and demolition process.
The corridor will feature a circumambulation path around the temple, a grand entrance, rest areas, a cloakroom, and toilets for pilgrims. Additionally, the nearby Amrit Sarovar will be beautified as part of the project. The government has earmarked a budget of 200 crore rupees for the construction of the corridor, which aims to transform the Lodheshwar Mahadev Temple into a major hub for religious tourism. The Yogi government asserts that this project will enhance tourism in Barabanki and surrounding districts, creating new opportunities for local businesses and employment while providing improved facilities for devotees. Work is also ongoing on the Banke Bihari Corridor in Mathura, aimed at enhancing amenities for the large number of visitors to the temple.
