Colombo: Recent days have been very sad for the world due to two devastating cyclones. These storms named ‘Dit Wa’ and ‘Senyar’ have taken the lives of more than a thousand people in 3 countries. The havoc of ‘Dit Va’ has caused huge devastation in Sri Lanka. Due to this cyclone, there was record breaking rainfall in Sri Lanka. Due to increase in water level in all the rivers, it became the biggest disaster after the tsunami. According to reports, around 400 people have died so far. About 400 people are also missing. 20,000 houses were destroyed in continuous rains and floods for a week. 108,000 people have been sent to relief camps. The report of Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center states that 798,000 people have been affected by this disaster. This island country fears that the death toll may increase further.
Senyar created havoc in a moment
At the same time, Senyar cyclone spread mourning in Indonesia and Thailand. This storm, which formed unusually over the Strait of Malacca and Indonesia, took the lives of about 450 people in Indonesia alone. Nearly 300 deaths have also been recorded in Thailand. Senyar started with light rain, but it soon turned into a major disaster. The torrential rain that fell within a moment made it an unexpected disaster. Thousands of people are still missing in both the countries, due to which the severity of this disaster is likely to increase further.
Rain is increasing in Kerala
With the weakening of cyclone ‘Dit Va’ over the Bay of Bengal, the environment has again become favorable for easterly winds over Kerala, due to which rains along with thunderstorms are returning. The Northeast Monsoon, which had been weak for a week, has become active again in many parts of the state. Although there is no possibility of much rain, thunderstorms are expected at many places in all the districts till Saturday. According to the latest warning from the Meteorological Department, yellow alert has been issued in many districts of the state today and tomorrow. Today this alert is in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Ernakulam districts, while yesterday yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.
